NOAH in the Community
The Northwest Association of Horticulture (NOAH) Was Established in 1985 to provide assistance to gardeners and organizers as a community service. Their Goal is to assist and encourage gardening in the Minot area.
Over the Years, NOAH has sponsored many community projects, including mentoring and plantings at Habitat for Humanity homes and at the Ward County Historical society; Plantings at the Scandinavian Gardens; Sponsoring and planting of "Memory Trees" for past members and their families; working with the test garden plots at the North Central Research Extension Center ; helping our city with their trail cleanup project each spring and fall and Maintaining plants at the Depot, and donated money to flood victims to replant their trees and/ or flower beds.
One of our most gratifying projects was the creation of the Dr. Charles and Ruth Hoffman Scholarship Fund at Minot State University. It is awarded each year to a student studying one of the Life sciences. NOAH also nominated their longtime member, Ruth Hoffman, for an Honorary degree in Biology, awarded by MSU in May 2002.
We provide a monetary scholarship to any horticulture student each year and have awarded to Dakota College at Bottineau, and Minot High School FFA Horticulture in the past.
Gardening books have been purchased for the Minot Public and Ward County Libraries.
Our Monthly meetings feature a guest speaker who presents interesting information about various aspects of gardening. Highlighting the summer is visits to greenhouses and local gardens. Meeting are informal, informative, and fun!
Meeting are informal and are held on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Vincent United Methodist Church, 1024 2nd Street SE except for those moths noted in the program schedule.
